We were engaged on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2005. The proposal came as a total shock and a wonderful surprise to LeAnne.

Danny had 2 rules for engagement. He had to date the girl at least 1 year before popping the big question, and he wouldn't even dream of proposing until his sister, Debbie, gave her stamp of approval. But these were "Danny Rules" and he could break them any time he wanted to.

Here's the story...

LeAnne and Danny were introduced by her cousin, Valerie, on August 7. Basically, from the moment they met, they knew this was "it"! They had so much in common and seemed like they had known each other forever. As their relationship progressed, they discussed marriage, but the plan was not to get engaged until 1 year of dating, and LeAnne still had not met Debbie.

LeAnne's Engagement RingSo now LeAnne and Danny had been dating 6 months and it's Valentine's Day. Their first one together so it was going to be something special. Unfortunately, LeAnne had just taken up a waitress job for extra $$ and had to work that night! So they had planned to celebrate on Feb. 16 instead on her day off.

When LeAnne got home from work, she pulled in the garage and found a large note asking her to read an attached note before entering the house. The note was in the format of a poem and said that Steffan was staying at her mom's for the evening and to come inside and look for clues around the house. And there would be candles to light her way around.

When she stepped inside the door, the first clue said to look at the computer and look for the first candle on the left for the next clue, so she started walking towards the computer and heard a voice whispering, "YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY!" So she immediately went back to the starting point and looked at the first candle she saw on the left, which was near a book case. She looked for her next clue and saw nothing. She said, "I don't see anything?" The voice again whispered, "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE KITCHEN!" So off to the kitchen she went!

From that point, the clues, which were all in a poem format, lead her all around the house to find poems, a teddy bear and roses. Finally the note said to go to her computer desk and play their song, "Amazed" by Lonestar. She then read a prayer Danny wrote thanking God for her and Steffan and how much he wanted her to be his wife.

Keep in mind that the entire time LeAnne is going through the house, she's thinking this can't be a proposal because it hasn't been a year. She just thought this was really romantic and how sweet Danny was for doing this for her.

She was then instructed to turn around and face Danny to hear the last portion of the poem. Danny held her hands and said,

"I've told you I love you
in so many ways
I could sing it all night
and not sing enough praise
So as I get down on my knees
take my hand and squeeze
as I ask you right now,
LeAnne Murphy, marry me please."

LeAnne immediately said, "YES! YES! YES!!!" And then he pulled out the ring. He placed it on her finger and hasn't been removed since.

Later that night, LeAnne asked if he had talked with Valerie about what kind of ring to purchase. He said, "No. Why?" LeAnne had showed several rings to Valerie when shopping at Christmas just incase Danny were to get her opinion on the type of ring she wanted. The ring Danny picked out is like the ones she picked out! It was the perfect size, perfect ring, just like their relationship... PERFECT!
